On-Going Support

In life we are faced with many choices, some hard, some easy. When it comes to the future, we may not know what lies ahead but we can all try to plan the best we can. Planned giving is a way to leave a legacy, to ensure the future is better for all those who embrace our profession. One of the easiest ways to provide a gift is through a provision in your will. A bequest is something anyone can make and is simple to do.

“I have children and relatives. Shouldn’t I leave my entire estate to them?”

This is probably the number one cause for reluctance when making a bequest. The fact is, depending on the current tax laws, leaving a gift to charity in your will may reduce the estate tax burden on your heirs significantly. You should consult with a financial advisor or attorney to learn how giving may actually benefit your family after you’re gone. “I’m ready, now what?” Bequests are accepted as unrestricted and restricted funds, providing you with the flexibility to support a designed area.

Please see below sample text you can use in your estate planning.

Unrestricted Funds: “I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, (the sum of $___) or (__percent of my estate). This gift may be used to further the mission of the Society in such a manner as the SVU Executive Committee may direct.”

Restricted Funds: “I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, (the sum of $___) or (__percent of my estate). This gift may be used exclusive for (insert restricted use language here; for example, list a specific program, prize or award).
