List of Things I Learned at the 2016 SVU Conference

As a first time conference attendee, I didn’t realize how tight-knit the vascular community was! I was impressed with everyone’s welcoming nature, and I was happy to have made some amazing memories with my teachers, friends and many other technologists there! Before I mention the list of everything that I learned, I wanted to thank SVU for giving me this amazing opportunity. No only did I learn so much, but I also met so many people that are there to help and encourage me in my journey to become a vascular sonographer!

Without further ado…here we go with that list!

 I learned…

  1. Where exactly to measure that carotid artery IMT.
  2. How plaque itself contained blood vessels called vasa plaqorum.
  3. CEA is the gold standard as opposed to carotid stenting.
  4. Between strokes and MIs, strokes are much worse because of their long term impact.
  5. In the future, it might be possible to characterize emboli on TCD.
  6. Reverberating flow during a TCD exam indicates brain death.
  7. Pediatric patients heal faster.
  8. Endoleaks should be followed up with angiograms to better appreciate and understand the leak.
  9. Education + biofeedback + yoga = reduced risk of work related musculoskeletal diseases.
  10. Of the 6 P’s for acute limb ischemia, paralysis is the worst of them all.
  11. Atrial fibrillation and aortic dissections are an indicator of emboli.
  12. Most important consequence of emboli = infarctions.
