Hello SVU members!

Welcome to Chicago, it’s great to have you! Chicago’s food scene is the one of the best in the world – every type and flavor of food is so readily available in this amazing city. My personal favorite is breakfast food. I can eat breakfast food all day, every day! I love a good omelet with some roasted potatoes and a cup o’ Joe in the morning. If I’m not seen eating breakfast food, you’ll probably find me at a local Mexican place eating tacos with lots of salsas! Below, I’ve listed some restaurants that are fairly close to the hotel. I mapped each one out for your convenience, so each location should be less than a 15-minute walk from the Hyatt Regency. Without further ado, let’s get started!

  1. Wildberry Pancakes Café – 130 E Randolph St, Chicago IL, 60601

Of course I’d start with a sweet brunch place! Let’s start with their coffee. They serve Intelligentsia coffee which is my absolute favorite. To those from out of town, Intelligentsia is a coffee roasting company that started right here in Chicago! Their coffee is very flavorful and the smell of it brewing alone gets my gears turning in the morning. Wildberry has some interesting brunch items, such as the Napa Valley Fig omelet, Oreo s’mores pancakes, biscuits & gravy, and Rocky Mountain crepes! Be sure to check this rockin’ place out during your stay here in Chicago – it’ll more than satisfy your sweet tooth!

  2. Stetsons Modern Steak and Sushi – 151 E Upper Wacker Dr, Chicago, IL 60601

Their website boasts that their menu is a creative mix of land and sea “that celebrates locality and season.” Along with various different sushi options such as red snapper, beef filet, king crab and marinated mackerel, they have the usual California roll and the spicy tuna. Pretzel encrusted Berkshire pork cutlet is one of the chef’s specials and it sounds absolutely delish! They have shared platters and an extensive list of wine for a group of friends to catch and relax after a long hard day of learning all about the vascular world! Did I mention that it’s not too far from the hotel?? A quick 5 minute walk is all you need to get there!

  3. Giardano’s – 130 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601

I hope you were expecting this one! If you’ve visited Chicago, you know all about the deep dish pizza hype. I’m personally more of a thin-crust person, but once in a while I’ll scarf down a Chicago style deep dish. I typically just get the cheese stuffed pizza, but feel free to add any toppings, because there’s never such a thing as enough toppings!

  4. Park Grill – 11 N Michigan Ave, Chicago IL, 60602

This location is literally under the Cloud Gate, or more locally known as the Bean. They offer some great American easy eats such as flat breads, sandwiches, burgers, along with soups and breakfast! A quick 10 minute walk will get you here, after which you can enjoy a nice meal with your friends and family and every time you look up, you’ll see the infamous Chicago skyline imprinted on the Bean!

  5. Siena Tavern – 51 W Kinzie St, Chicago, IL 60654

In case the name didn’t give away the hint, this is a traditional Italian place. They have a pizza bar and their pasta is made fresh in the house. That’s rare to find these days! Siena Tavern also has a great collection of cheeses and meats!  I would have to kill myself if I didn’t mention their desert menu because it is to DIE for! From flourless chocolate cake to coconut orange crème brulee, you won’t run out of options!

  6. Mercadito River North – 108 W Kinzie Street, Chicago, IL 60654

The name of the restaurant literally translates to “mini market,” which is exactly what you’ll find here! They have many options for typical Mexican style food such as flautas, tacos, quesadillas and so many styles of guacamoles and salsa! This is a definite on my list when I’m in the city!

  7. Glazed and Infused – 30 E Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60611

This is a cute little donut shop, perfect “on-the-go” option! They have some really creative options for donuts such as the maple bacon long john, the lemon poppy seed old fashioned and the Pilsen doughnut! The Pilsen doughnut is named after a small little district near the city, which is mostly consists of the Latino population. So this doughnut will have a bit of a kick to it!

Now that you have a few options to check out in the city, have at it! Pick a day and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner out at one of these places. And to end the night, walk along the Lake shore path and enjoy the view. There’s always some kind of ice cream or gelato carts that hang around the path, which is perfect for dessert!
