The Chicago Scene

The possibilities of places to go and things to do are endless in the summertime. Here are some suggestions from a Chicago native….

If you are the sight-seeing kind of person…

1. Millenium Park:  this area has so many great things to see from the beautiful landscaping to the Crown Fountain, which is water wall with interactive video art. Don’t forget about the famous Bean. This is a ten minute walk from the hotel.

 2. The Chicago Cultural Center is another site you don’t want to miss. An eight minute walk from the hotel will lead you to the beautiful Tiffany ceilings and grand staircases within the center.

3. Grant Park: The famous Agora sculptures are stationed here as well as Buckingham Fountain (one of the largest fountains in the world. This is a six minute ride from the hotel.

4. Navy Pier: The newly remodeled pier has a plethora of great restaurants, boat rides, bike rentals, one of the largest Ferris wheels, the Crystal Gardens. Fireworks are scheduled on August 10th and August 13th. This is five minute arrival time by car or twelve by foot from the hotel.

5. Sky scrapers: Check out Willis Tower’s (AKA Sears Tower) observation deck with the “Ledge” (clear observation box that juts off the side of the building. The John Hancock Building’s 96th floor is great for cocktails and a breathtaking view of the city. Both of these places are approximately a ten minute drive in opposite directions from the hotel.

If you are into nightlife with a great view and sweet sounds; roof top bars and lounges are popular during the summer months in Chicago. Some great places to check out are Zed 451, Drum Bar, the J Parker, and Vertigo Lounge.

If you are into the historic ball parks: take in the sights and catch a game above the Ivy in Wrigley Field, which is home to the Chicago Cubs.

If you are all about Chicago cuisine and treats don’t forget to stop by Garrett’s Popcorn and Firecakes Donuts for the sweeter side of life. Don’t forget to try a Chicago style hot dog sans ketchup, deep dish pizza and Italian beef.
